Early Life
Louis Riel was born on October, 22nd , 1844. He was born in Manitoba, or what was then known as the Red River Settlement. Riel received his education in Montreal as he was a bright student. He also wanted to train to be a lawyer, but that ended after his fiancé passed away. His time at school paid off as he was well educate and fluent in two languages. Riel was a strict Catholic. He was raised by a Métis father and a white mother.
Political Views
Riel felt that the Métis were deprived of responsible government and public liberties and he didn't want his homeland taken over by the government. Riel disagreed with the government's attitude towards the Métis. He felt that they did not keep their promises and as a part Métis he did not take too kindly to this course of action. For Riel, all options had been exhausted and physical rebellion was a last resort.
